I was given this deck of cards by Matt Alderton, the founder of Bx Networking recently, for giving the best 40-sec pitch 😊 And I thought they represent some key areas of my work and life.

I run a heart-based business. Yes, there is equipment and technicality and technique which are all very important aspects of my business but the people who face my camera are all human.

I can get good photos of people based solely on equipment and technique but to get great photos, I need to connect with people on a deeper level. I need to get them to a place of trust where they can drop their social masks and let their authenticity and inner beauty shine through.

Strictly speaking, all businesses that serve people need to be heart-based. You may have the best chef in the world running your kitchen, immaculate tables and impeccable taste in décor, but people will keep coming back to your restaurant only if they feel special, looked after and the staff can make a connection with them on some level. If the waiting staff are bored, rude or indifferent, they may like the ambience and love the food but might hesitate to come back because of that missing connection. I know I would.

To be able to connect to connect to people, empathise with their struggles, encourage them on their journey, and see their happy authentic selves emerge in front of the camera is truly one of the greatest pleasures in running my business.
